Ok dudes im doin a personal/public transport system that will entice private car users to move to a public system that will improve congestion; help the environment; and provide the first step for the future and improving Wellingtons image.
The vehicle will be automated and allow the users to achieve more during their commute: eat food, do paperwork, music or dvds or tv.

So you are gearing the number of powertrains available to the number of vehicles actually in motion- running on the principal that there will always be a given number of pods stationary and without need of power.
It's good you have chosen a fairly conventional drive system, and avoided tracks with pods like the doomed PRT.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_rapid_transit -Your concept is much more versatile. Would the empty drivetrains en route to collect a new pod also drive on the road? You'd need to consider visibility as they would be low.
Also, since the Pods would be private, and the drivetrains state owned and therefore centralised, they would be an ideal candidate for this:

A zinc-air battery, with high specific energy density, is used as the primary power source- perfect for cruising to a destination, lots of stored energy in a small space. A conventional battery with energy density being no issue, for example of Li-ion cells, is used for rapid power requirements, ie. stop/start traffic, and urban driving. This can be rapidly regenerated through braking, and topped up from the zinc-air battery if required. With this system, space is not lost entirely to Li-ion, as zinc-air batteries are much smaller for equivalent energy. The low energy density Li-ion can therefore be employed in lesser amounts, to fulfill only rapid power requirements that zinc-air cannot meet. This system gives performance comparable to the fossil fuel based system in the vehicle it replaces.

Yeah this is good stuff raja way more powerful than the other idea you had, it seems to get rid of all the problems with the older ideas you were sticking to.

sup dude. ok i was told my da tutor to make this vehicle have no front and back. so its been tough trying to work that into allowing the pod to dock easily. anyways the chassis can become narrow thru hydraulics and the panels sit upright to provide visibilty for other drivers. which one looks better so far? the arrows on the side symbolize light so people get a visual of the direction the vehicle is moving in.
I'd go for the 2nd- the grille reminds me of a Dodge Charger with the concealed headlights- maybe you could have both front and rear lights in either end which light up depending on motion. Arrows are a good idea, flags might work too. I take it the pod itself can have a front though?

yeah the pod will be pretty symetrical but will have a front and door at back. rear panels will flip up and door will open for exiting at your destination.
Hey dudes heres another concept im trying. the sides conncect to each other thru a telescoping magnetic pole thingey. then they latch into the pod on their own . the wheel arms rotate slightly around the middle bit to lift the pod off the ground. wot ya think??? this would mean les moving parts then the last concepts.
