Hay all, I'm keen this summer to try and keep those design skills sharp. So we're thinking about trying to tackle a mega group project. Open to all and make a sweet piece for portfolio. and also learn CAD for those who haven't tackled solidworks yet, or improve if you know a bit already.

Its been suggested that we try and make a robot (or another complex thing with different sections) and each person if responsible for just one part. I.e. an arm/leg/head/torso/weapon. You would keep in contact with the people doing the parts which attach to yours to co-ordinate the joins etc. And the resulting aesthetic and materials would be real interesting.

The more people the better and more complex we could make it. It would also be cool to try and get an animation student on board to get some help animating at the end.

I know people are still busy but we could maybe work on it through the whole summer when people are round. We can all meet up for some cad sessions too if people need a hand up to be brought up to speed on SW (solidworks).

Who's keen???????? Its going to be mean!!!!
Yeah im keen Jakey - will have to juggle it round a few things on the go, but definitely sounds fun and i need SW skills bad. Big Grin
Or we could do a playground Jute???? Hows that all going?
Slowly... Waiting for committees to finalise things and hand the ball over. Have submitted concepts and got the job so next stage will be exciting.. But definitely a waiting game when theres govt funding involved!
Hey guys
Sounds like a real good idea. I'd suggest trying to tackle a slightly simpler robot. I think it would be a great idea if you look at getting a deeper understanding of mechanics and engineering as well as a deeper understanding of SW. You can see that even from the concept stage Jay had a really solid understanding of how it all worked. I think it would be advantageous to start from the ground up, work out the chassis, power source, drive motors, hydraulics, control mechanism, and outer shell etc. Even if you just spend a couple hours sorting this sorting through some of these things you'll find the final result is a lot easier to achieve and better off for it.
Keen to see how it goes.
